Known for their brute strength as well as their intelligence, the bear is as fearsome as it is majestic. Across Europe, even speaking the word “bear” was considered an ill omen that would summon the terrifying creature, thus their name was only spoken as a warning call. One of their more lighthearted activities includes their annual scratching ritual – in early spring they shed layers of their winter coats – in synchronicity with the rising temperatures – by rubbing their bodies on tree stumps. This process not only removes excess fur but also marks the tree with their scent to signify their presence to other bears. Featured here relaxing on a tree stump, the Herend Reserve Napping Bear features the iconic fish scale motif and 24k gold accents. handmade and hand painted in Hungary. Limited edition of 150.
